Clay Scholarship Program

The Hoffman Center for the Arts Clay Program is pleased to offer scholarships to artists and emerging artists who require financial assistance to participate in classes or workshops offered here.  Funding for this program comes from reserved funds through generous donations made to the Kathleen Ryan Memorial Fund established in 2016.

Scholarship Scope
Qualified students may request funds to supplement up to one-half of the registration fee for a HCA clay class or workshop. Scholarship recipients are responsible for paying the remainder of the tuition, along with any other costs, such as materials, travel, accommodations and meals that are not included in workshop fee.

Adults over 18 years of age who reside within a 30-mile radius of the HCA are eligible to apply. Criteria for selection are financial need and proposed benefit to the artist and the art community. Awards are based on financial need and the potential benefit recipients gain through taking the workshop. Awards are limited to one per person, per calendar year. Funds are made payable directly to the HCA class or workshop registrar.

Application and Award Process
Scholarship applications are accepted, reviewed and awarded by the Scholarship Committee in the Clay Program throughout the workshop season. The committee, on a case-by-case basis, considers applications as classes and workshops are scheduled. Applicants must submit a completed scholarship application form at least 14 days prior to the start of the class or workshop.

The Clay Program Scholarship Committee will confirm receipt of the application within two days of receipt and notify the applicant of their decision within five days of receipt of the application.

Deadline and Notification
Applications will be accepted during the workshop season, typically from February – October, until scholarship funds set aside for the year are depleted.

Scholarship recipients may enroll in any HCA Clay Program class/workshop. Classes and workshops are posted in both the HCA Clay Studio and online. Once notified their scholarship application has been approved and workshop selection is confirmed, the scholarship recipient may enroll in the class and pay the remaining balance to secure their seat.

Cancellation Policy
If the presenter or HCA Clay Program cancels the selected workshop, the recipient’s portion of the tuition will be refunded and the remaining funds returned to the scholarship fund. If the recipient cancels fewer than 7 days before workshop, a refund for the recipient portion may not be given. This decision depends on the policy for the individual class, the Clay Program, and the instructor.
