The Tactile Image:
Using Foraged Form and Ephemera in Painting

Workshop description:

This two-day workshop focuses on using native plant and other gathered material for use in the study of pattern to develop imagery.

By the use of image trapping using gesso and spackle on top of wood panels, a slight bas relief can be coaxed into being and subsequently an image can be made to come forward through the process of adding fluid paint.

By selectively adding and subtracting material to the board, the image can be changed at will until a satisfying resolution is present. Adding collaged bits of papers to this surface can shift the panels into even more dimension if desired. Several threads of work will emerge that participants can follow, even though a finished piece might not emerge.
