The Hoffman Gallery Presents

The Gallery will host its fourth annual “Word & Image” exhibit during the month of October.

The show, a unique collaboration of North Coast artists and writers, officially opens Friday, Oct. 5, at 7 p.m., with a reception for the participants. The exhibit will remain on display throughout the month during the Hoffman Gallery’s regular hours – Friday through Sunday, from 1 to 4 p.m.

“Word & Image” pairs artists and writers and challenges them to create original pieces, each in response to the other’s work. The related pieces are then produced in broadside format. The broadsides, original art, and a book of the entire collection will be available for sale.

“Writing in response to art has been popular for centuries,” said Emily Ransdell, a Hoffman Center volunteer who co-organized the event with fellow volunteer Andy Barker. “It has been fun to give artists their turn as well, encouraging them to create art in response to writing. People explore new mediums and methods with wonderful results.”

Twelve artists and twelve writers were selected for this year’s program in a blind submission process, with judging by a group of past Word & Image participants, as well as members of the Manzanita Writers’ weekly Writers’ Lounge.
