Create a vibrant, colorful mosaic birdbath for the garden!

This workshop will cover the basics for exterior and garden mosaics. Lecture will include information on substrates, appropriate for exterior use and their preparation, fixatives, setting, grouting and sealing. This workshop is great for the beginner as the instructor will be covering tools, cutting techniques and mosaic design. It is also appropriate for students who have already experimented with interior or craft mosaics and want to expand their knowledge to include exterior, garden, or permanent installations.

Students will construct a small birdbath from a terracotta pot and base and adhere glass mosaic in a radiating pattern. Material fee includes base, pot, tiles, mortar, and grout. Students will need to bring wheeled glass nippers, which can also be purchased from the instructor for an additional $15.

Kuhns creates original mosaic art panels and custom architectural installations for private, corporate and public space. She says her work celebrates nature and the human experience and that she is committed to environmental sustainability using reclaimed and recycled materials whenever possible. Her many workshops include teaching mosaic classes for the Seattle Mosaic Arts Association, Sitka Center for Art and Ecology, and at other art centers in Santa Barbara, California, and Orlando, Florida. Kuhns leads the Choice Mosaic Program, a highly successful weekly drop-in class at Choice High School in Shelton, Washington. The program began as an outreach program for homeless teens through a grant from the McKinney-Vento Act.  More information about Kuhns, her art, and installations can be found at: http://jkmosaic.com/
