Writing Class

THIS CLASS HAS BEEN MOVED TO ONLINE, BUT IS FULL.

Introduction to Poetry Writing
Instructor:  Emily Ransdell

April 3, 10, 17, 24 and May 1
10 a.m. to Noon

Emily Ransdell’s 5-week Intro to Poetry Writing will take a nuts-and-bolts approach to writing. We will do close reads of several contemporary poets, then use their techniques to create poems of our own. Each session will include a brief discussion of examples brought in by the instructor, a silent writing exercise, followed by sharing of the prior week’s homework. Yes, there will be homework!  Participants will leave each class with the beginning of a poem to work on over the next seven days.  Designed for beginning writers, but also a good review for people who write poetry, but have not had much formal instruction. No prior workshop experience necessary.

About the instructor: Emily Ransdell is a part-time resident of Manzanita with an MFA in Poetry. She co-leads the Manzanita Writers Series PoetryFest and is the founder of the popular Word & Image Project at the Hoffman Center. She has published widely.  You can hear Emily read samples of her work here: http://picturesofpoets.com/Poets/emily-ransdell/

The class has a minimum of five students to go forward, and a maximum of eight, so register soon!
