Creative Process Workshop with Oregon artist Sara Swink.

Creative endeavors raise questions like “What should I make? What do I have to say in my work?” and “How shall I say it?” Clay artist Sara Swink will introduce an approachable methodology that she relies on in her own work for exploring artistic vocabulary and cultivating personal style. Beginning with guided exercises in collage, doodling and clay, some discussion of the creative process and common obstacles, the workshop culminates in an image journal, clay sketches and ways to keep moving forward. Set aside what you know or what you don’t know about technique: this workshop is for complete beginners and experienced artists alike. Be prepared to come out of the workshop with a blast of creative momentum.

Sara Swink is a clay artist who makes hand-built figures conveying a psychological stance and humorous edge through personal narrative. She has been teaching studio classes and workshops since 2000 in her studio and other venues including Chemeketa Community College, Portland Community College, Creative Arts Community at Menucha and Sitka Center for Art and Ecology. Her workshops offer a series of structured exercises allowing participants to explore and expand their creativity; her studio classes focus on expressive clay sculpture.
