Combining visual media has always been part of my practice. I find juxtaposing media and techniques to be a rewarding and curious challenge. It’s a mind motivating get-your-hands-dirty experiment to be a matchmaker of materials. When it works, it’s exciting!
Mixed media is the visual art term for work that is created by combining different yet artistically compatible materials on an array of surfaces. A mixed media piece is an orchestrated composition that is perceived as more than the sum of its parts.
For this workshop we will be exploring the diversity and complexity within color washes, line quality, texture of drawing implements, and the benefits of using sturdy paper or aqua board.
Let’s spend our time together focusing on still life and landscape, combining, pairing, and layering line, texture, color, form, and space to create mixed media works of art that hold meaning for you.
Come as you are, with a desire to explore! No art background necessary. All materials will be supplied: however, feel free to bring favorite supplies from home, if desired. Please bring an apron and wear clothes appropriate for playing around with art materials.
