WORKSHOP IS SOLD OUT

Create a sketchbook page while learning about the ethnobotanical history of various native trees: Sitka Spruce, Western Hemlock, Douglas Fir and Cedar. These plants have been utilized by Native People and can be found in many coastal habitats. The workshop will include drawing from observation and short presentations on the species. Ethnobotany is the study of a region’s plants and their practical uses through the traditional knowledge of a local culture and people.

Students will complete several entries into their sketchbook incorporating botanical drawings and ethnobotanical notes. We will explore simple sketching exercises and draw from observation using pencil, pen and ink and colored pencils and learn how to creatively design an interesting and playful composition in your sketchbook, adding other creative elements to your sketchbook such as text, observations and reflections. We will focus on drawing by looking at branches, needles and cones from various trees.
