Colored pencil drawing workshop on pollinators
and botanicals led by Seaside artist Dorota Haber-Lehigh

Create a drawing that incorporates a botanical subject and a pollinator. Students will start with loose sketches of bees, bumblebees, hummingbirds and plants. Explore colored pencil techniques in drawing pollinators and plants, learn about blending, layering and embossing. Find inspiration in the work of Maria Sybilla Merian. Draw in a realistic style but individual approaches and styles are encouraged.

All skill levels welcome ~ a set of colored pencils and sketch paper for class use will be available

Dorota Haber-Lehigh is an artist, educator, and a naturalist with a passion for native plants. Born in Poland, Dorota loves traveling, field sketching and discovering nature. She is inspired by her grandparents, who were avid mushroom hunters, her father’s travels, and her mother’s fabric art and ikebana. Dorota has two degrees in Art and International Studies with a focus on indigenous cultures, and a master’s degree in teaching. She also holds a graduate bilingual certificate in Teaching English as a Second Language. She is currently working on a Diploma in Botanical Illustration from Society of Botanical Artists in London. She is a member of Oregon Botanical Artists, and American Society of Botanical Artists. She also enjoys teaching nature drawing, natural science illustration and botanical drawing. Her website is

Bring your own specimens of plants and several good reference photos of pollinators
Bring a sketchbook, pencil H or F, kneaded eraser, hand held sharpener, Micron Pigma 005, and a set of artist quality colored pencils (24 colors of either Faber Castell Polychromos, Prismacolor Premier, Pablo by Caran d’Ache, or Derwent Colorsoft)

Dorota will have available
Tombow Pencil F or H– $ 1.25, kneaded eraser – $ 1, Micron Pigma 005- $ 2.25 and some blenders for sale as well.

Embossing tool (Pergamano Fine Stylus 0.5 mm- or any colorless blender of your choice, for example Caran d’ache wax colorless blender, or Copic colorless blender marker.
