Printmaking Studio

Continuing our interactive printmaking sessions, the instructor will demonstrate trace monotypes and stencil monotypes and will guide students in their experimentation with these techniques.

• Trace monotype: A printmaking technique that involves drawing on printing paper over an
inked plate.

• Stencil monotype: A printmaking technique using stencils to create positive and negative masking on a plate and then running the prepared plate through the printing press.

This workshop is suitable for all levels; no prior experience is necessary. Students who previously worked with the shellac plate technique are welcome to continue their exploration of this medium, if desired.

Jan Branham, a part-time Manzanita resident, taught high school art for 35 years and after retirement found her voice in printmaking. In March 2023 she had a print show at the Hoffman Gallery entitled Ansisters and Mancestors. Jan has taught a variety of classes at the Bainbridge Artisan Resource Network (BARN) on Bainbridge Island in Washington State and won a few awards, too. See more of her work at janbranham.net.
