Raku
Works by Local Ceramicists

Raku firing is an ancient Japanese ceramics technique that has been used for many centuries to create a very unique finish to wares. The Raku method dates back to the 16th century. “The traditional Raku process is believed to reflect enlightened life, as the firing process is daring and the pottery is derived from the earth.”(Sara Frazier)

A group of local ceramicists have created Raku pieces using a variety of designs,  glazes and techniques. After using the potters wheel or hand building their wares, pieces are bisque fired to ready them for Raku firing. The artists then gather on acreage in the Nehalem Valley for the final firing using Raku techniques. Every piece is aesthetically unique making it a one of a kind art piece.
