Beach Writing Retreat
July 7-9
Cost: $295.00
The Beach Retreat, July 7-9, is an annual event in Manzanita, Oregon and writers come from all over the United States to enjoy our expansive beach, hiking trails and waves. This is a small, unspoiled town with a truly breathtaking beach. Beginning to advanced, you are welcome and you will leave refreshed and inspired.
We’ll be talking about Michelle Obama’s new book, Becoming, and also looking at short literary fiction by 
Margaret Atwood and Lorrie Moore. You will also write, based on prompts, and learn brainstorming techniques to help organize your first or fortieth draft.
Jennifer keeps the cost low because accommodations and your meals are not part of this retreat. We can provide a list of places to stay, help arrange room share options and get you to and from the airport in Portland, Oregon (if you decide you don’t want to rent a car), for a fee. We do provide healthy snacks, water, coffee and tea, during the hours you are in the retreat.
SCHEDULE:
Sunday – 10-4: Arrival at Jennifer’s personal home for the day (address to be provided in your welcome packet, welcome, opening discussion about you, your overall project ideas and goals, and introduction/practice of exercises for shaping a full length project.
Monday – 10-4: Class at The Hoffman Center in downtown Manzanita. We open with a writing prompt, sharing and then go into the teaching on Becoming! That afternoon, we’ll focus on your personal projects and help your ideas take shape with creative exercises and discussion.
Tuesday – 10-4: Also at The Hoffman Center in downtown Manzanita. We open with a writing prompt as we did the day prior, will teach on Lorrie Moore and Margaret Atwood. In the afternoon, we’ll continue to focus on your personal projects and set a plan for the next draft of your project so that you leave inspired and ready to go.
WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING: Your computer, pens/pencils, writing paper, Becoming by Michelle Obama, and print outs of the short stories Jennifer will have sent prior. We would also like you to write up a biography about yourself and provide a photo so we can compile a list of writers and send it to everyone in advance of the retreat.
