Community Writes – Blue

It’s the Best Kind of Winter Blues!

Submit your work to Community Writes, a program of the Hoffman Center for the Arts

Community Writes kicks off 2024 with a call for submissions on the theme Blue, in collaboration with the Hoffman January Community Show Indigo.

Indigo:  A most ancient dye, this “blue gold” was used as a currency. In one belief system, a symbol of power and importance; in another, wealth, abundance, and fertility. Indelible, powerful, strong, calm.  Far from the hot center of the color spectrum, cool and compassionate.

Sing the blues, got the blues, blue sky thinking, black-and-blue … so many ways indigo:blue can inspire. Let your imagination run wild—where does this intense blue carry you?

January through March, send us your fiction, essay, memoir or poetry inspired by Blue.  Visit us & click on “Community Writes: Learn more” for more information.

Community Writes accepts contributions from writers with ties to the north Oregon Coast and is open to everyone – whether you are already a published writer or not. There is a $5 fee per submission.  No more than 800 words please — and include an image if possible. Submissions will be published on a rolling basis on the Hoffman Center website.

The theme “Blue” will also be featured at an Open Mic event on Saturday, January 20th at 3 p.m., held in association with the Hoffman Gallery’s January 2024 Community Art Show “Indigo.” Readers at the open mic are limited to five minutes.  No need to submit your work in advance; you can sign up when you arrive or email Laura Bailey at [email protected] to snag a spot ahead of time.
