August Potters’ Nook— works by Tara Spires-Bell

Tara Spires-Bell is a ceramic artist based in Nehalem, OR, whose work celebrates the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest. Specializing in wheel throwing for eight years, Tara also explores slab pottery, finding joy in both the precision of throwing and the freedom of hand-building techniques. With a passion for pottery that harmonizes the raw hues of clay with lively glazes, Tara draws inspiration from the coastal palette of the PNW—capturing shades reminiscent of ocean, forest, and sky. Her creations often reflect the intricate textures of mushrooms, mosses, and fungi found along the forest floor, imbuing each piece with a sense of organic wonder.

Her commitment to teaching extends to pottery lessons, which she began offering recently, finding immense fulfillment in passing on her craft to others. In 2022, Tara founded Mud & Craft out of a deep-seated desire to share the joy and therapeutic power of crafting. Her journey into pottery began as a personal quest to create an urn for her mother, who succumbed to cancer—a poignant connection that continues to influence her artistic path. At Mud & Craft, Tara fosters an environment where self-expression flourishes, believing that creative endeavors offer profound opportunities for reconnecting with the present and our natural environment.
