Who Says Water and Oil Don’t Mix:
Creating Art Using Combined Water and Oil Mediums

Using a base of calcium carbonate for both water-based and oil mediums has allowed well-known local artist Laura Ross-Paul to create paintings that are both transparent and opaque, ephemeral and painterly.

After working with water-based and oil-based mediums separately for years, in 2018 Laura Ross-Paul began combining these two mediums by working on a calcium carbonate base. Ross-Paul will share the art she has created, the techniques she has developed, and her continuing explorations.
