Mike Scrivens

   

Perhaps I’m a frustrated painter because even my newest work insists on hanging on the wall. Wheel throwing is limiting in terms of size, which is why I’m applying the same glazes and techniques of glaze application to tiles. I’ve designed a line of high relief tiles which I surround with a cut and glazed tile frame and equip to hang on the wall. These tiles are designed with the high relief image connecting to itself through the grout line to provide a continuous running accent which can be used as a backsplash or a feature strip among field tiles. Karen LaGrave Small – For the Love of Nature

The First Four Paintings in this Series
These paintings began by looking for what called to me. It was the edge where the water meets the land. It changes. I love to be outside and stare, it’s called the long look. I paint what I see. I paint what moves me. I painted the edge many times. Four paintings survived.

The Second Four Paintings
This year I had the joy of painting outside near where I live. I had the intention of making lovely paintings which had a quirky or serious meaning. I mourn for the trees that were removed during the time I painted them. I’m happy to become friends with a peak which has a name I can’t remember.

Jude Welter – Ocean in Motion

     

This show features original water media paintings on different surfaces.  Yupo, mineral papers (teraskin), and varnished papers were used to obtain fluid effects.  I felt that capturing the moving water of the sea was the main objective, and it was a joyous process to watch paint ebb and flow to hopefully capture a feeling of the Pacific Ocean.
