Joan Truckenbrod-Pioneering Digital Artist
Join us for an evening with Joan Truckenbrod, the featured artist in the October gallery exhibit at the Hoffman Center. She is credited as being one of the earliest pioneers in digital art, with her explorations starting in the 1970s. Beginning with programming to create pen plotter drawings, she explores different modes of artistic expression that inject a materiality into her digital artwork. She continues to propel the image from the screen into the material world, creating a physical presence.
Joan Truckenbrod is Professor Emeritus at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago in the Art and Technology Department. Her work is in collections at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, The Art Institute of Chicago, and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. Recently her work has been included in two important exhibits at the Whitney and Los Angeles County Museum of Art. The current exhibit at the Hoffman Center includes lithographs, hand digital Jacquard weavings, and experiments in 3D printing, addressing the challenge of the availability of shelter.
The October artist reception will follow the lecture.
