I am a ceramic artist on the North Oregon coast in the town of Manzanita where I have lived for almost 30 years.  I consider myself a “newbie” in the art world: ten years working with ceramics and dabbling in other art forms.  I have had some wonderful support along the way from the Hoffman Center and Nehalem Bay Clay studio.  I am at a place that allows me to move forward with some confidence to expand and explore my creativity.

As a massage therapist for almost four decades, I am drawn to the tactile nature of hand building with clay, as it evokes a sense of playfulness and imagination. Many times, I even giggle out loud!

The wheel on the other hand (no pun intended), with its inherent structure and rules, offers a mesmerizing and productive experience. This very much appeals to me.   As a former professional athlete, I love discipline, rules and focus.  I am currently working to increase my skills and to explore altering my wheel throw vessels and creating other forms and glazing techniques.

Spending most of my life in nature as an observer and participant, I find a sense of peace especially when the world around me is not at peace. Doing art also gives me that sense of calm.  I would like to create that feeling in my work: to evoke kindness, warmth, or a smile, and a sense of belonging to nature.

I believe that art has the power to generate positivity and a connection to the world around us. I am excited to stay on this path as it feels like a fulfilling and meaningful one.
