Proving Up

As many as one in five homestead claims was filed by a woman, yet their stories have largely gone untold.  This talk by the author of The Jump-Off Creek explores the lives of homesteaders and other westering women in fact and in fiction.

About Molly Gloss

Molly Gloss is a novelist and short-story writer whose work has received, among other honors, a PEN West Fiction Prize, an Oregon Book Award, two Pacific Northwest Booksellers Awards, the James Tiptree, Jr. Award, and a Whiting Writers Award. Her novel The Jump-Off Creek was a finalist for the PEN/Faulkner Award. She writes both realist fiction and science fiction, and her work in both genres often concerns the landscape, literature, mythology and life of the American West. A fourth-generation Oregonian, she lives in Portland.
