Vitreography 101: Watercolor Monotypes

Get your creative juices flowing in this hands-on introduction to the world of vitreography printmaking. This two-day workshop will focus on substrates, paper, use of matrices, materials, and watercolor monotype to create monoprints.  As the workshop progresses, students will gain an understanding of the process of making a print from a glass substrate with all of its possibilities.

Instructor Mark Mahaffey will lead a discussion regarding different materials and how to create a surface to draw on using watercolor, watercolor pencils, and watercolor crayons. By the end of this workshop students will be comfortable using an etching press, including its setup, materials, and problem solving. Those who come with an open mind will learn a new process that can be built upon to make great art. Each participant will take home several prints of their creation.
