Your Own Flag to Raise
The Hoffman Center for the Arts invites you to meet visual artist Jessica Rehfield for an artist talk (June 13, more info here) and the following craft workshop. These offerings are offered to the community at minimal cost thanks to grant funding from the Rainmaker Craft Initiative.
Your Own Flag to Raise
During this craft workshop, design and make a unique identity flag and discuss the power of representation and visibility! Learn design and fabrication to make an individually sized flag to represent you. A brief history of Pride flags and artists who created them will place our flag design process in the context of considering identity. Learn processes and materials (piecing, design, hand-sewing) to create a personal identity flag that can be used at home and outdoors. Flag-making materials will be provided, and participants are asked to bring sewing tools if owned (needles, scissors, cutting mats), additional tools available. Incorporate your sewing into a flag and discuss representation and identity.
