Featuring works by Matthew Palmgren,
Allison Asbjornsen, and Michelle Valigura

Matthew Palmgren

Matthew Palmgren is a mixed media artist, born in Seattle, Washington. In 2007 he graduated with a BFA from Western Washington University, where he studied sculpture and industrial design. After graduation, Matthew worked in Seattle as an art handler where he installed priceless works of art in major art institutions, museums, and private residences. In Seattle, Matthew created and exhibited his own work at his studio in Pioneer Square. Matthew relocated to the north coast in 2010. Currently, Matthew works out of his studio in Astoria, Oregon. He is the assistant curator at the Columbia River Maritime Museum.

Allison Asbjornsen

Allison Asbjornsen has lived and maintained her studio in Tillamook County since 1971. She was born in Munich and grew up in Portland, graduating from PNCA and with a MFA, from University of Washington and University of Oregon. She has shown in Seattle, Portland, Eugene, Los Angeles, and Oslo, while working at the Munch studios. Her teaching of drawing, painting and basic design has included Portland State University, Mt. Hood Community College, University of Oregon, Portland Community College, and Tillamook Bay Community college. In the past eight years she have been working with obvious singular images, botanical, some birds, some horses, some rain.

Michelle Valigura

Michelle Valigura is a sculptor, with a primary focus on ceramics.

Her background in film production design and stop motion animation along with her love of mid century design have built a foundation for a strong sense of color and aesthetics that can be seen translated in her work.  She has licensed her work to Disneyland and other art brands. She has exhibited her work, lectured and taught workshops at galleries, museums and universities worldwide. In 2019 Michelle moved back to her roots in the Pacific Northwest where she opened Basalt studio that functions as her working studio and showroom in downtown Cannon Beach.

Walk on the wild side
A nod to the wildlife that inhabits this beautiful area of earth but also to the challenges we constantly face daily. The Lou Reed song was released in 1972 (the year I was born) and is an anthem for outliers trying to find place and a community that accepts them and helps them thrive.
