Mary Roberts Ceramics

I am a ceramic artist living near Neahkahnie Mountain on the north Oregon Coast.
My interest is in elegant and modern form with a feeling of volume. I seek to balance perfection in the
forms I create with imperfection in surface finish. I frequently create tension between the perfect and
imperfect by adding an organic finish through carving, texturing, etching, drawing, or applying slip to a
refined shape.

This balance seems like a metaphor for just about everything. Our search for perfection or ideal and then
the beauty that comes from the messiness and imperfection.
