Advanced Throwing with Diana Crain

Diana Crain is back!  She is exhibiting in the Hoffman Gallery in July, and has agreed to teach a wheel throwing class on advanced and altered shapes including round bellies, long necks, bottles, closed tops and large pieces while in town.  Diana has taught a number of classes at the Hoffman and is a very popular instructor in our clay community.

The 3-hour class, for experienced potters, will take place on Friday, July 1, from 2 – 5 p.m. in the Hoffman Clay Studio.  Diana will demonstrate techniques for creating alternative shapes and oversized vessels. There will be plenty of time for observation, questions and answers, but no actual throwing time in this session.

Diana was born and raised in Speedway, Indiana. Her first ceramic experience was as a child sitting around the dining room table painting molded ceramics with her mother. She grew up believing that every household had a kiln next to the dryer in the utility room. At age 15 she won first place in the Midwest ceramic competition. She attended Herron School of Art and Indiana University on scholarship graduating with a degree in art in 1971.

Along with her teaching experience, Diana is a well-known ceramic artist.  Her works have been sold in over 250 galleries and museums across the country.  She has won several awards and her work is in museum, private and corporate collections such as HP, Disney, Kaiser Permanente, Denver Art Museum, and LA county Folk Art Museum.  She has had one woman shows in New York, Cape Cod, Chicago, Denver, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Carmel.

Proof of vaccination is required; masks are optional but always a good idea when working in a clay studio.
