December Gallery Exhibition
Venue: Hoffman Center Art Gallery
Address:
Description:
Situated on the main street in Manzanita just a few blocks west of Highway 101, the Hoffman Center Art Gallery is located across the street from the North Tillamook Library.

My focus is a creative exploration of printmaking techniques. I strive to create prints with many layers of texture and color. Recently, I have achieved that goal by layering printmaking techniques, (monotype, collagraph, dry point, mark making from sketch directly onto the print surface) onto a print and/or its ghost print. I continually experiment with mark making materials outside the conventional realm.
Borrowing from George Orwell, Joan Didion said writing is how she finds out what she’s thinking, what she’s looking at and what it means. It’s her portal to the magic in the moment. Painting is my portal to that same instant. With all the chaos of daily life, I’m reminded that solace is right here. Gretel Ehrlich said it perfectly in her book of essays, The Solace of Open Spaces: “The truest art I would strive for [is] to capture the same qualities as earth: weather would land on it harshly; light would elucidate the most difficult truths; wind would sweep away obtuse padding.” I strive to capture some essence of my model through strong composition. My use of color is intended to enhance the drawing, to further the story. Composition and color work to organize and define the space. May my use of color approach the mastery of Pierre Bonnard and Tom Thomson.
