July Potters’ Nook Featuring Works by Janice B Gaines-Ehlen

Janice’s life has been full of adventure and passion for new things. She ventured into the Hoffman Center clay studio on a whim back in 2017. Intrigued by the artistic and creative process in clay, she was immediately hooked.

As a former professional athlete, massage therapist and fitness trainer, she taps into the learning processes honed over 30 years to develop skills in clay. She then incorporates her lifelong passion for nature for artistic inspiration.

Janice focuses now on exploring what art in clay might present. She constructs hand-built sculptures and also throws on the wheel. She especially enjoys studying the huge variety of glazing and firing techniques.

Janice is inspired by the physical and meditative connection of clay and often finds herself swept up and in the zone of the creative process. That soulful and adventuresome connection is clear in her ceramics works.
