Landscape Collage:
Reimagining the World Around Us

Join May Hoffman Gallery artist Lindsey Aarts in an exploration of landscape collage. In this workshop, Lindsey will provide a short discussion and demonstration of her locally-inspired landscape art. Students will then have the opportunity to explore and create their own unique collage papers, landscape composition and layout, all with an eye toward telling a story of their personal connection to the Oregon Coast. Each student will take home their own unique landscape collage creation.

Instructor biography

Lindsey Aarts uses watercolor illustration and mixed media collage to create colorful imagery rooted in stories, history, and the natural landscape. She enjoys using this visual language to create a sense of place for the viewer and always looks forward to finding another story to tell.

Lindsey was born and raised on the Gulf Coast of Florida and graduated from Florida State University with a degree in Art History and Museum Studies. In 2009, she packed her belongings and headed west to Portland, Oregon. For the last fourteen years, Lindsey has worked as a freelance graphic designer but began focusing on her personal art practice when she moved to Oregon’s north coast in 2017. Since then, Lindsey has shown her work primarily in her hometown of Astoria, Oregon and was honored to be chosen as an artist in residence with Astoria Visual Arts in 2022.
