Manzanita Day 2023

By mayoral proclamation – no joke! – March 31st is Manzanita Day, when we celebrate our namesake shrub. This year, we’re not simply going to praise the genus Arctostaphylos, we’re going to get our greedy hands on dozens of plants.

Yes! It’s a Plant Sale!

We’re working with our Portland friends at Xera Plants to score as many manzanitas and native spring-blooming plants as we can for this in-person-only sale. Sorry, no pre-orders!

We’ll be selling a wide range of manzanita species, from groundcovers to small trees (in 5-7 years, anyway). We won’t leave you guessing; volunteers will be on hand to make sure you’re on a first-name basis with the plants you bring home.

But know this about all our manzanitas: they want full sun, fast drainage, absolutely no fertilizer and after their first summer, no supplemental water. Provide them with these basics and you, too, will celebrate “the plant that spells home.”

Also on sale: native wildflowers! Blues, purples, whites, pinks, yellows! That’s about as specific as we can get right now; it all depends on what germinates and looks irresistible by Manzanita Day. Guaranteed, irresistible they will be.

But wait! There’s more to this year’s Manzanita Day celebration. After blowing your plant budget in the morning, we’re hoping the afternoon will blow your mind.
