Mixed Media Stylized Portrait Online Workshop:
A Study in Flow
Join Melissa Grace Young in a dynamic four-hour online interactive workshop exploring flow in creative practice.
We will enjoy a deep dive into the life and creative practice of Hildegard Von Bingen, a writer, composer, and visionary from the 12th century while we follow steps to construct a mixed media portrait. You will use your own reference photo or share a photo provided by the instructor and set out on a journey learning to trust in your own unique process.
By the end of the workshop, you will have participated in an inspiring and thought-provoking presentation, had a fun hands-on experience, and have a finished or nearly finished piece of art capturing your own creative spirit.
There will be plenty of opportunity for interaction and an opportunity to share our work in a judgment-free space.
Instructor Biography:
Melissa Young grew up in San Antonio where her artistic expression began with scissors, crayons, paste, and paints. This has continued into her adult life where creation is an essential part of maintaining her peace of mind. For the past twenty years, Melissa has been drawn to figure and portrait sketching and painting, particularly of the female form. She especially loves the divine female form: the Madonna, with halos, hands, flaming hearts, and crowns with vivid colors and unbalanced facial features and body parts. This expression reminds us that so few things in life are perfect, and yet they can be so perfectly beautiful. Melissa’s passion is to fill journals with images of everyday wonders, and transcendent figures with extraordinary vision and strength. She teaches art journaling and mixed media portraiture to help others on their creative journeys.
