I am a native Oregonian residing in Manzanita, Oregon since 1979 after accepting a position with the local school district.  Along with teaching, I opened a small gallery attached to my home in 1994 and began selling my basketry including work from other local artists.  Looking for a different medium and process, I delved into copper foiled stained-glass construction in 2005, which I enjoyed for its colorful visual appeal. Ten years later, I was encouraged to take a class making clay masks at the Hoffman Center for the Arts, and my college day clay experiences were rekindled.  I now volunteer as a host at the HCA clay studio where I continue to expand my hand building techniques.

Years of exploring and weaving natural fibers into basketry forms eventually led me to think how clay forms could be integrated with other materials.  I found hand building using clay coils or slabs most appealing because of the variety and freedom in construction and design that can be experienced.

My recent work has been produced with more intent and has focused on the use of oxides and glazes applied to textured slabs and the technique of sgraffito in which underglaze is applied to leather hard clay and a design is created by scratching away the clay with special tools.  The use of darker clay bodies allowed for texturing and color contrasts.
