Featuring Ceramics by Angela Bennett and Scott Bennett

Angela discovered pottery in high school, and thanks to a very inspiring and patient teacher, was soon spending all of her free time in the studio. She continued working with clay in college, and then life generally carried her away from the art. In 2019, after learning that the Hoffman Center offered access to a fully-equipped studio and the opportunity to throw on the wheel again, she and her husband signed up for a day pass, and she has been pursuing it ever since.

Angela loves the local artist community at the Hoffman Center and has also taken full advantage of the endless wisdom and experience other potters share online. She enjoys learning new throwing and altering techniques and experimenting with how various forms interact with layered glaze combinations. She is drawn to colors and combinations that emulate the ocean, sand, forests, and sunsets in Manzanita.

Scott was born in Eastern Oregon and was introduced to pottery and the magic of kiln fired art in the 1980s by David Waln, a master potter and family friend from Summerville.

Scott’s art reflects his interest in haunted mansions, shipwrecks, and dogs – and the desire to create representations of those things that can hold water, whiskey, and coffee. He uses his ipad to draw out the ideas and often uses a laser cutter to create custom wooden forms and stamps to shape and texture the clay.  Scott has also integrated a digital application with his pottery and designed short pottery adventure/mystery games coordinated with stacked mansion shot glasses.
